Fanshawe’s Curling Named the Strongest National Collegiate Program
At the CCAA 50th Anniversary Gala in Ottawa, Ontario, it was announced that Fanshawe College's Curling program has been crowned the most dominant in the past 50 years. Over the last half-century, Fanshawe has tallied 57 medals (43 provincially and 14 nationally). Out of Fanshawe's 14 national medals, they racked up seven National Championship titles.
On top of this program's great athletic achievements, 40 OCAA All-Academics, 30 CCAA National Scholars, and 21 CCAA Academic All-Canadians have emerged. Over the years, Fanshawe's Curling teams have been led by John Corywell (1968-1978), Ted Smith (1978-1987), Tom Geldard (1987-1992), Darren Chapman (1992-93, 2009-2010), Brian Sheardown (2010-2011) and Fanshawe's current Head Coach, Barry Westman (2011-present). Westman has notched three CCAA Coach of the Year titles and an OCAA Coach of the Year award within the span of four seasons.
Fanshawe looks to carry on their forceful legacy within the CCAA this upcoming season.
