Women’s Curling Team Crowned Provincial Champions
(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Falcons Curling teams competed at the OCAA Provincial Championships from February 5-9 at Dundas Valley Golf and Country Club, hosted by Mohawk College. The Falcons Women's Curling team dominated the competition, capturing the OCAA Provincial Championship.
Fanshawe skip Parker Doig (Egmondville, ON) was named Women's Curling Most Valuable Player and a First-Team Championship All-Star, while head coach Barry Westman earned OCAA Women's Curling Coach of the Year honours. This marks Fanshawe Curling's 17th OCAA gold medal and the first since 2018-19, when both the Men's and Women's teams won gold.
Fanshawe opened the bonspiel with a commanding 12-1 win over Fleming on Wednesday. Their momentum carried into Thursday, shutting out Humber 9-0 before a dominant 10-1 victory over Confederation. The Falcons remained undefeated through the round robin, defeating Niagara 8-0 on Friday and Mohawk 8-1 on Saturday. In the semi-final, they edged out Niagara 6-3 after eight ends to advance to the championship match against Humber. The Falcons completed their championship run with a thrilling comeback in the seventh end, securing an 8-6 victory—redemption after falling to Humber in last year's OCAA final.
Joining Doig on the championship-winning squad were second Kara Wrightson (St. George, ON), lead Abigail Brown (Sudbury, ON), and vice Veronica Van Broekhoven (Port Stanley, ON), all of whom earned First-Team Championship All-Star honours. The Falcons Women's team will now compete for a national title at the CCAA Championships in Lethbridge, Alberta.
The Falcons Men's team, consisting of Brandon Stirling (Highgate, ON), Brett Henderson (London, ON), Kyle Henderson (London, ON), and Anden Fennell (Brantford, ON), finished the round robin with a 4-3 record before falling to Humber 11-1 in the semi-finals. Fanshawe's Mixed Doubles pair of Brennan Roy (Timmins, ON) and Leah Gowan (Port Elgin, ON) finished fifth with a 2-3 record.
