(London, ON) - The Falcons men's basketball team matched up against Lambton (4-3) on Wednesday night and delivered a nail-biting 70-66 victory over the visiting Lions, much to the delight of the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre crowd.
Fanshawe got off to an early 9-2 lead in the first quarter before Lambton settled in and responded to even the game at 17 apiece after the opening frame. Brandon Bogart (St. Thomas, ON) was making plays early, collecting a team-high five points, three rebounds and two assists to help lead the Falcons to a strong start.
The second quarter saw Fanshawe shut down the Lions, holding them to just 11 points while outscoring them 19-11 to carry a 36-28 lead into halftime. The Falcons' perimeter defence was a problem for Lambton all night, as the Lions shot just 21.4% from beyond the arc for the game.
The Falcons' offence came to a standstill out of halftime, mustering only seven points to Lambton's 17, and Fanshawe found themselves down 45-43 after three quarters.
After being hounded nearly all game, Bogart found his stride again when it mattered most, dropping nine of his team-high 17 points in the fourth. The Birds received contributions from across the roster in the win, including a stat-sheet-stuffing performance from Da'Marion Ennis (Windsor, ON), who posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds along with three assists and three steals. Thanks to an explosive 27-point fourth quarter, the Falcons sealed the deal and closed out the Lions 70-66.
The Falcons will have to wait one week before returning to action, when they host the Niagara Knights (3-4) at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre on Wednesday, November 26 at 8:00 p.m.
