Falcons Win Clash of the Birds
(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Men's Volleyball team (12-4) welcomed in the top seeded and No. 3 nationally ranked Humber Hawks (15-2) for Falcons fest and took care of business, winning three sets to one.
The first set was a nail biter as neither team could extend out to a lead with both squads trading points back and forth. Tanner Paterson (Baden, ON) made his mark in the set after the Falcons took a 26-25 lead, he skied high after a perfect set and drilled an unreturnable kill to win the first set for Fanshawe, 27-25.
The second set was another tight battle that went back and forth. However, Humber responded well and broke away from the Falcons, closing the set 25-20.
Unfazed were the Falcons as they put their foot down on the gas in the third set. Zack Admans (St. Thomas, ON) was unbelievably efficient in this one as he finished with a team high 14 kills and 18 points with only three errors in the match. Admans athletic ability and pure power was on display for the Falcons Fest faithful as he soared for multiple mean, unreturnable hits. With the lift of Admans offence, Fanshawe took the third set 25-16.
Fanshawe continued to roll in the fourth set with more impressive offence between the duo of Paterson and Admans. Taylor Jordan (London, ON) was an unsung hero this game as he was a rock defensively, picking up 12 digs to go along with eight points in the match. With the Falcons firing on all cylinders, they were able to close the fourth set 25-20 and win the match.
The Falcons will host their final home game of the season against the Redeemer Royals (6-10) as Fanshawe continues to jockey for a favourable playoff position. The Women's team will kick-start the action at 3:00 p.m. with the Men's team following at 5:00 p.m.
