Falcons Blowout Lambton to Pick Up Fourth Win of the Season
The Falcons women’s basketball team (4-2) welcomed the Lambton Lions (2-4) into the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre on Wednesday night and walked away with a resounding 23-point victory, 79-56.
(London, ON) - The Falcons women's basketball team (4-2) welcomed the Lambton Lions (2-4) into the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre on Wednesday night and walked away with a resounding 23-point victory, 79-56.
Fanshawe got off to a red-hot start with a 15-4 run powered by a balanced scoring attack, as seven different Falcons put points on the board in the first frame. Lambton did their best to claw back, but Fanshawe maintained a 20-13 lead after the first.
The second quarter saw Edith Eseme (Milton, ON) pick up her offence, dropping six of her season-high 14 points in the frame, while also adding five assists and five steals in the game. Supplemented by more strong team play, the Falcons carried a 39-24 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was tightly contested as the visiting Lions tried to claw their way back into the game, but were only able to outscore the Falcons 22-21 in the frame. Fanshawe continued to hold the lead, with Eseme pacing the team with a quarter-high five points.
In the end, it was just another day at the office for Ashlyn Anderson (Latchford, ON), who continues to have a spectacular season. Anderson racked up a season-high 20 points, eight of which came in the fourth quarter to help Fanshawe outscore Lambton 19-11 in the final frame. She finished her night with 20 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and one block as the driving force behind the Falcons' 79-56 win.
The Falcons will enjoy the weekend off before returning to the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre for their next game against the Niagara Knights (2-5) on Wednesday, November 26 at 6:00 p.m.
