Falcons Fall to Knights in Four Sets
(London, Ontario) The Fanshawe Women's Volleyball Team (3-7) lost in four sets to the Niagara Knights (7-4) on Wednesday at the nest.
Grace McLean (Dorchester, ON) was great all night for the Birds, as she led the way in the first set, soaring for multiple kills. However, strong service play by Niagara neutralized Fanshawe as they dropped the first set 25-17.
The second set saw Fanshawe in an 8-2 deficit early, but the Falcons resilience helped them battle back to close the gap to 14-12. McLean's amazing net play continued and big-time blocks from Ari Peake (London, ON) helped lift Fanshawe in a back-and-forth battle. The Falcons defence made the difference in a tight set that the Birds claimed 25-23.
The third set was another back-and-forth affair that stayed tight throughout. After a quiet first two sets, Dana Sloan (London, ON) stepped up her aggressiveness and secured multiple kills in the third and fourth sets. Unfortunately for Fanshawe, Niagara rallied late and secured the third set by a score of 25-23.
Peake continued to demonstrate her phenomenal athleticism in the fourth, claiming multiple blocks and kills in an effort to will the Birds to a fifth set. However, in a hard fought set the Falcons fell by a score of 25-22 and lost the match three sets to one.
The Falcons will be back in action on Saturday November 30th, taking on the Sheridan Bruins (1-8) at Glenn Johnson Athletic Centre at 1:00p.m.
