(London, Ontario) – The Fanshawe Falcons Cross Country teams competed at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Provincial Championships hosted by Mohawk College at Marydale Park in Mount Hope, Ontario on Saturday October 25th, with both the men's and women's teams earning podium finishes.
Fanshawe's first-year runner, Alex Leinweber (London, ON), delivered a phenomenal performance in the men's eight-kilometer race, clocking in at a time of 24:49 to capture the men's individual gold medal. Leinweber was also named the OCAA Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Year after finishing 23 seconds ahead of the silver medalist. Leinweber follows in the footsteps of last year's OCAA individual gold medalist and Rookie of the Year, Matt Talbot, who ran for the Falcons in 2024.
Leinweber's first-place finish led the way for the Falcons men's team, who won the team bronze medal. Joining him on the podium was Noah Derganc (St. Thomas, ON), Ezra Bender (St. Mary's, ON), Adam Voisey (Sarnia, ON), Matthew Lindsay (Dorchester, ON) and Brennan Roy (Timmins, ON).
The Falcons women's team took home a silver medal after a strong collective performance. Leading the way for the women was third-year runner Grace Boyce (Markdale, ON) who clocked in a time of 23:37 to finish fifth individually in the six-kilometer race. The silver medal winning Falcons team was rounded out by Megan Hutson (London, ON), Regan DeWinter (Mississauga, ON), Cadence Trudeau (Wawa, ON) and Allie Morden (London, ON).
The Fanshawe cross country program is no stranger to success at the OCAA Championships as both the men's and women's teams have claimed a spot on the Provincial podium for five years running.
