(London, ON) – The Falcons men's volleyball team (8-3, 2nd West) matched up against the Conestoga Condors (7-3, 3rd West) at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre on Wednesday night in their first home game of 2026. A thorn in the Falcons' side, Conestoga escaped with a tight five-set victory, 3-2, topping Fanshawe for the second time this season.
The first set was positive for Fanshawe, as they controlled play throughout after a 7-2 run to open the set. The frame was highlighted by an impressive display of aerial ability and power from second-semester addition Tyler Gibson (Richmond Hill, ON), who led all Falcons with 15 kills in the match. Fanshawe managed to take the opening set by a score of 25-19.
The Condors fought back in the second set in a back-and-forth affair until Conestoga pulled away with four straight points to make the score 16-13. That cushion proved to be enough, as the Condors escaped the set with a 25-22 victory.
The Falcons bounced back in the third set, dominating Conestoga in a 25-13 win. Jayden Crowther, who finished the night with 13 points and three blocks, led the way for Fanshawe in the third.
An unfazed Conestoga squad responded in the fourth set, holding a 20-15 lead late. Despite a valiant effort from the Falcons to battle back from the five-point deficit, including tying the set at 23 apiece, the comeback fell short and Fanshawe dropped the fourth set 25-23 to force a fifth and final frame. The fifth set was pure drama, as neither team could pull away and the score was tied at 13 apiece. Unfortunately for Fanshawe, the final two points went to Conestoga, as the Falcons dropped the set 15-13 and the match 3-2.
The Falcons will return home to the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre on Sunday, January 18, at 3:00 p.m. to take on the Humber Hawks (6-4, 5th West), the only other team to have defeated Fanshawe this season.
